Capturing Bakhmut by May 9, as Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of PMC Wagner, promised, the Russian troops did not succeed. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes that it was the lack of achievements at the front that forced Russia to increase the number of strikes on the territory of Ukraine with missiles and drones. The British Ministry of Defense reports that the Russian army is now conducting the most active operations in the Bakhmut and Maryinsk directions.
The line of contact in Bakhmut can be clearly seen from the smoke after shell explosions. In the eastern grouping of troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine they say that Russian units have no shortage of shells on the Bakhmut front. In just a day, Russian troops can deliver about 500 artillery strikes here.
More than ten wounded were brought to the stabilization point of the third assault brigade in the morning.
“The injuries are very diverse. Starting with ordinary contusions, ending with severe wounds of the chest, limbs with open fractures, pneumothorax, and the like,” says Alexander, a surgeon at the stabilization center.
Anton from the mountain assault brigade was wounded in the leg and chin. He says that during the assault not far from Bakhmut himself. There, his unit went on the attack on Russian positions.
“I was sitting in a trench. A VOG flew in, they ‘trimmed’ me and another one. They dragged out the ‘300’ and loaded it into a car. It doesn’t happen that there are no wounded and losses,” says Anton.
The day before, his unit had already recaptured two positions from the Russian military. Anton says that he does not know how this attack ended. According to doctors, the number of wounded depends on the situation on the battlefield.
“The front is constantly breathing, as a rule, a little more, a little less,” says Andrei, the surgeon at the stabilization center.
Andrey assures that now the Ukrainian military is trying to think through every military maneuver to the smallest detail. This affects the number of injuries: “There are many minor injuries, that is, the percentage of medium and severe injuries is very small, many guys can be returned to duty.”
The fighters of the 80th airborne brigade managed to knock out Russian soldiers from two landings near the highway that leads to Bakhmut. Now the Ukrainian paratroopers hope that it will be a little easier for the defenders of the city.
“The landings were very important. We can say that they were thrown back from the “road of life,” says Oleg, a soldier of the 80th airborne brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian landing units tried to immediately return.
“We just covered with fire, then informed the BC, immediately took up positions when there was no one left alive. Well, we defended ourselves, fortified. We waited for the next, further actions. Then they tried to repel something, but to no avail. “, – says a soldier of the 80th brigade Maxim.
There has been plenty of work in recent days, the artillerymen say. “The situation is consistently difficult, but the front line has changed little. There are some hundred or two hundred-meter movements of our infantry. We are working out normally. Especially yesterday was accurate. And today a lot was destroyed, here are two targets. Today and yesterday, a lot of infantry was also destroyed, including by our efforts,” says Ivan, a senior officer at the battery of the 80th brigade.
