Germany will play Serbia in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 final at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines on Sunday. The basketball match is scheduled to start at 6:10 PM IST and will be streamed live in India.
German men made it into their maiden Basketball World Cup final after stunning five-time world champions USA 113-111 in the semi-finals. Serbia defeated Canada 95-86 in the other semis to make their second final appearance in the last three editions.
The result also means that a new team will be crowned the basketball world champions on Sunday.
USA and Canada will compete for third place in the FIBA World Cup 2023. Defending champions Spain were knocked out in the second round.
Germany have won all their matches in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. Their campaign has been led by Toronto Raptors’ NBA star Dennis Schroder, who has been their leading points-scorer (125) and has had the most assists (47) in the tournament. Schroder scored 17 points and had nine assists against the USA in the semi-finals.
The German basketball team’s best finish at the FIBA World Cup was third place in the 2002 edition in the USA.
The Serbian basketball team were runners-up in 2014 in Spain. This time, Serbia have been led by Bogdan Bogdanovic, who plays for Atlanta Hawks in the NBA. He has scored the most points (136) for the team so far. Stefan Jovic has registered the most assists (45) for the team while Nikola Milutinov has had the most rebounds in the tournament.
Bogdanovic and Milutinov were instrumental in the semi-finals against Canada. Bogdanovic led the way with 23 points, his sixth straight game with at least 15 points, and Milutinovic added a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
